One thing to note about ping and bandwidth is that higher bandwidth doesn't mean lower ping. Data will only travel as fast as it can with the hardware it runs through over the internet. What this tweak does (the most important one anyway) is set the optimal packet size for your connection thereby negating the need to split packets up. It would be nice if Windblows automatically adjusted this depending on connection condition to every different connection made but such is not the case. By default, Windows networking is not optimized for high speed internet and hardly ever for any connection today so the tweaks work great in that app. Another option you can do is use the tweak test at http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks and it will suggest settings for you to change with Dr.TCP or the one Static has mentioned.
Another issue that can effect ping is your own computer. DoD sucks resources like no other for an ancient game once you start hitting about 20 players. If you are getting FPS drop, something in the system isn't able to keep up, CPU/RAM, video card or network card. If say your CPU is peeking out and you use an on board NIC, it's going to affect that as well. Also, many on board and aftermarket NICs can eat CPU time because they don't have a built in processor. I always buy Intel NICs because they never let me down and work great. I still run an old 10/100 from 1996. On top of this with a decent NIC with processor, double check the registry for the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Tcpip\Parameters and a value of: DisableTaskOffload with data of: 0 This is for Windows XP and below. It will prevent putting your CPU to task for things that can be handled by the NIC's processor. Not sure about Vista as I won't touch it. I would like to assume Micro$oft figured it out and Vista should be fine but everyone knows how they roll. I can go on and on. Lots of little things add up to speed up all areas of your computer to unleash it's potential. -------------------- ![]() |

didnt work :[
but what i use to decrease ping and in-game lag is this gamebooster Game booster it basically shuts down unnecessary programs running on the background (with 1 click) and it also has game defragment Really helps if ur using vista or your low on ram, hope it helps -------------------- ![]() |
